A Shower Massage - The Perfect 5-Minute Retreat for any New Mom
Tuesday, May 29th 2012
If you're a new mom, you probably know that after a day of feeding, spit up, and changing diapers, nothing feels more relaxing and like a brief retreat than a warm, comforting shower. Unfortunately, your shower time may be cut short when you have a little one in the house.
Here are some tips we found to help you get the most relaxing shower massage possible:
- Put the pack-and-play or bouncy seat near or inside the bathroom to keep your baby or toddler close by, and add some age-appropriate toys
- Dim the lights or shower by flameless candlelight
- Use lavender- or jasmine-scented soap
- Use a new loofah sponge or pouf to lather up
- Change your shower head mode to massage
- Hold your breath for 5 seconds then exhale slowly--starting with your head, release muscle tightness as you breathe out
- Lather, rinse, repeat (if time allows)
- Find the softest towels in the house to dry off with
- Apply lotion right after your shower to keep skin soft and moisturized
When you're relaxed, your mind has the opportunity to stabilize (since we know you're not getting much sleep these days). You can decrease headache symptoms, become less anxious, and just feel better. Even if it's just a 5-minute retreat, it's a little something you can do treat yourself better every day.
