Neti Pot Sinus Solutions for the Allergy Season
Wednesday, April 27th 2011
Allergy season is upon us – that means itchy eyes, sneezing, coughing, congestion, and sinus problems. According to the CDC, more than 29.3 million adults suffer from sinus problems. Are you one of them?
There are so many relief options out there for the average allergy sufferer such as medication, shots, and simply staying indoors. But there is a low-cost option to help sinus problems that has been around for hundreds of years with high success rate… a neti pot (sometimes called a sinus pot, nasal pot, or nose pot).
How a Neti Pot Helps Allergies
A neti pot sinus rinse helps relieve allergy symptoms naturally, and it is prescribed by many ear, nose, throat (ENT) doctors and allergists. Like washing your hands, using a neti pot helps wash your sinuses to clear of them of congestion, allergens, and everyday debris. It is a safe and effective daily routine to help you stay healthy.
You may never have tried a neti pot, or maybe you are scared to! But the Waterpik® SinuSense™ line of sinus rinse products and neti pots are easy to use. They have an ergonomic feel, a soft tip for sealing, and a convenient flow control valve. A neti pot can change your life forever – at least in the itchy-eyes-and-sneezing-during-allergy-season sort of way!

More Allergy Prevention Tips
In addition to using a neti pot sinus wash, here are some simple tips to help reduce exposure to allergens:
- Vacuum often – Vacuuming once or twice a week may reduce surface dust mites. Make sure your vacuum has a HEPA filter to capture dust and allergens.
- Control dust mites – You can't get rid of them, but you can take steps to help keep them under control and lessen your exposure to them. Consider covering mattresses and pillows in zippered, dust-proof covers.
- Reduce pet dander – If you don't want to part with your pet, keep it out of the bedroom. It's also recommended that you have someone without a pet allergy brush the pet outside to remove dander as well as to clean the litter box or cage.
- Limit pollen exposure – Prevent pollen from entering your home by keeping your windows and doors closed.
- Avoid mold spores – If you reduce the moisture in the bathroom and kitchen, you will reduce mold. Fix any leaks inside and outside of your home and clean moldy surfaces.
