About Low Flow Shower Heads
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), showering is one of the leading uses of water inside the home, representing nearly 17 percent of annual residential indoor water use in the United States.
In an effort to conserve water, the Energy Policy Act of 1992 limited the maximum flow rate of many household plumbing fixtures, including shower heads. The shower head maximum flow rate standard is 2.5 gallons per minute (gpm) at 80 psi.
Low flow shower heads that earn the EPA's WaterSense label, such as EcoFlow® products from Water Pik, must demonstrate that they use no more than 2.0 gpm.
However, low flow showers have often been associated with poor water pressure/force and an unsatisfactory shower experience. Understanding this, Water Pik has focused on engineering our EcoFlow® shower heads to save water and money without sacrificing a great shower. We do this by optimizing flow through the water channels and nozzles in a shower head.
The EPA notes that if every household in the United States installed WaterSense labeled low flow shower heads, we could save more than $1.5 billion in water utility bills and more than 250 billion gallons of water annually, which could supply more than 2.5 million U.S. homes with their water needs for a year. In addition, we could avoid about $2.5 billion in energy costs for heating water.

In 2010, the Environmental Protection Agency's WaterSense® program established a new labeling program for showerheads, to encourage efficiency and performance through three key attributes:

Water Savings Calculator
By law, all shower heads sold in the United States must use no more than 2.5 gallons of water per minute. EcoFlow® shower head technology reduces this standard shower head water flow rate by up to 1 full gallon of water per minute, depending on the EcoFlow® model.
To calculate your savings with EcoFlow® low flow shower heads:
- Enter the average number of showers taken per day.
- Enter the average length of each shower in minutes.
- Enter the flow rate of the shower head you are replacing (standard shower heads manufactured after 1992 use 2.5 gallons).
- Select the flow rate of the new low flow shower head.
For example, if your current shower head is used for two showers per day and each shower lasts an average of 15 minutes, enter 2 for the average number of showers, 15 for the average number of minutes and 2.5 for the flow rate.

Water Savings Tips
- Avoid running the faucet while you brush your teeth, wash your face or shave, and save up to 4 gallons of water a minute. That's 200 gallons a week for a family of four.
- Research has shown that an average of 8% (or more) of all home water is wasted through leaks. Fixing a leak can save 500 gallons of water each month.
- Check with your local government agencies and utility companies for rebates on water saving fixtures
- Trade up your current shower head to a water efficient shower head such as a Waterpik® EcoFlow® model. It reduces water consumption by up to 40%, is inexpensive, easy to install, and can save a family of four up to 17,000 gallons of water a year.
- Turn off the water while you shampoo and condition your hair and you can save more than 50 gallons a week.
- When possible, take showers instead of a bath, and consider washing your face or brushing your teeth while in the shower.
