Beyond the Bristles:
New study shows the Waterpik® Sensonic®Professional Toothbrush removes 80% of plaque without bristle contact.
Independent researchers recently evaluated whether four popular sonic toothbrushes could remove plaque without direct bristle contact. Findings showed that the Waterpik® Sensonic® removed 80% of the plaque at a distance of 2mm beyond the bristles, making it nearly 30% more effective than its nearest competitor, Sonicare®Flexcare. Plaque that was once unreachable or missed through traditional brushing is now easily removed with the Sensonic® advanced sonic cleaning action.
The new research was published in the Journal of Clinical Oral Investigations, sponsored by a grant from the Swiss Society of Dentistry. According to the researchers, toothbrushes utilizing high-speed side-to-side actions may generate an acoustic transfer of energy and thermodynamic surface tension forces that in turn agitate air molecules and contribute to plaque removal beyond the reach of the bristles.
